March 25 event recap

“First keep peace within yourself, then you can bring peace to others.” Thomas Kempis

Our first event of the year took place on March 25 in Rockville. In commemoration of Women History Month, it was an opportunity for women to gather around the subject of cultivating peace. The discussion centered around two simple questions:

  1. How do I, as a woman, cultivate peace within myself?
  2. How do I, then turn it into peace in my interactions with others?Women are believe to be change agents and the first teachers of the generations to come. In light of all the current events (read wars and instability), what is the role of women? This question begs an answer but one that finds answer(s) in looking at the reflection in the mirror.

M.J. Park of Little Friends For Peace  led the workshop and guided participants through a series of exercices. She shared tips on how to do s self check-in by looking at the Wellness Wheel (see pictures). The participants also had the opportunity to meet with each other- in a rotation of a few minutes- to share what their thoughts were about creating more peace in their daily lives.

Musical performance was by Grammy nominated Cheikh Hamala Diabaté and friends.
